i think this will really help the look of downtown Kelowna and help move Kelowna foreword. the cost efficient apartments makes me think that it could bring in a lot of new buyers looking for a nice apartment in the beautiful sunny Okanagan.
Nov 7, 2009 - Damien F.
It's about time some development towards the rejuvination of Kelowna's important downtown core happened. The thought of it being affordable for possible first time buyers is very appealing.

Great addition to the downtown core.

Finally, a step in the right direction for Kelowna!
A few more places like this downtown and we might get the Downtown life that Kelowna severely needs!
May 10, 2009 - Brad M.
Finally! Something for young professionals. This is exactly what Kelowna needs! I know soooo many 20 & 30-somes who cannot afford to live here. These are the educated, tax paying citizens needed for the long term success of this community!
Nov 28, 2008 - Mark F.
To the person below - you realize this development would be taking the place of one of the ugliest, strip-malliest sections of Bernard? There is nothing heritage about it! The extra density is much needed in this part of the core and would greatly benefit the area. The "parking" issue is a complete non-factor, the building is equipped with a parkade for residents. Those complaining about "lack of parking" in the downtown are likely car-dependent suburbanites who would hate to be even the slightest bit inconvenienced of having to walk the extra half-block to one of Kelowna's many parking lots or parkades.

I am against this proposal, due to the inconvienience it will cause to local businesses whom have established themselves in this downtown community. It will start here, then everyone will want to do the same. A lot of the businesses in this downtown core have been here a long time, I think that the historic look of downtown is important and beautiful, maybe some refacing, but to let new skyscrapers come in and destroy kelowna history is about money and greed. Parking will remain an issue for downtown and these skyscrapers are only going to make this avaliability worse. I say leave the downtown alone.
Nov 25, 2008 - Evan W. - Student
As an masters urban planning student i think this is the kind of development kelowna needs.

What a great looking development. Can't wait to see downtown in a few years...

Kelowna is at a critical point, its economy is largely based on agriculture and the amazing vistas, but decades of bad development have lead to the destruction of these views and agricultural areas in the form of townhouse sprawl. It is time that Kelowna realizes that the only way to go is up if the city is to become more livable and keep its economic backbone. This is a great looking project and i hope to see it built in its current form. The people who oppose these types of projects are usually those who are retired and scared by change.

24 is a fantastic development in the ideal location, I don't know what else you could ask for in our downtown core. Height is inevitable and cutting it down just lowers the potential of this development which would be quite unnecessary ... There is already a 26 storey high rise on sunset drive, but this is more affordable. So hands down 24 has my approval
Nov 10, 2008 - Ryan J.
Urbanity and densification of this nature with less emphasis on a car-oriented society are the keys to environmental responsibility and a vibrant and energetic downtown. Kelowna's future depends on it...

YES!
YES! YES! I absolutely 100% percent support this wonderful project. This project includes all of the things that downtowns should have. This beautifully modern tower brings commercial space that will get tons of business and also living space for 100's of people. WE NEED more people living downtown if we ever hope to improve the life of Downtown Kelowna. And with this "24" project, i believe will accomplish this. P.S. YES! YES! YES! |
