Personal Information

My name is Cheryl Stone and I have lived in Kelowna since 1975. I am a single parent of two boys, who are on their own and living in another Province. I am employed in the Retail Grocery Industry at present, and have been for the past 18 years. For nine years I was employed as a Confectionery Sales Representative, with the Interior of the Okanagan as my territory, along with working in retail grocery, and teaching fitness and children's classes at the Parkinson Recreation Centre for about 10 years.

As every single parent out there knows, one must be able to multi-task with job and home life. I have learned to organize my time very well.

I have volunteered in this community for many years and am presently, Chairman of Kelowna Snowfest, Chairman, locally, and Advocacy Ambassador, of the Canadian Diabetes Association, Publicity Director for the Elks Lodge #52, of Canada, here in Kelowna, and Orientation Facilitator for Kelowna Community Resources.

Since my parental responsibilities are not a priority at this time I am able to commit myself to other interests, which I would like to devote to Kelowna.

I believe with my pride in this city, determination, and my passion to accomplish, I will serve this community well.

My Vision

Kelowna has been my home for 30 years. These were years of quick growth and change and now I see growing pains and problems that need to be addressed. That is why I’m running for Kelowna City Council. I know that my positive attitude and passion to succeed will serve this community well.

My vision is to see Kelowna live in harmony with our precious environment around us, keeping as much green space as possible, while still allowing a balance between growth and environmental protection.

My promise is to hear you, to work hard for you and to commit the time and energy needed to find cost effective solutions that see us into the future.

My Concerns “Changes for the Better”

Better - Community Safety

  • Safer public community areas for all citizens
  • Support and promote community advisory committees to work with police to communicate neighbourhood issues and report on the status on safety in our city.

    Better - Social Programs

  • Promote more affordable and safe housing
  • Promote two-way communication between the municipality and it’s citizens
  • Work with all levels of government to increase and support programming for children/women of abuse and violence
  • Develop a stronger volunteer network
  • Better - Growth Management/Economics

  • Support preservation of historical sites
  • Support increased green space
  • Support increasing our Okanagan signature tourist industry
  • Better - Community planning

  • Support careful sustainable economic development and smart growth
  • Support our local workforce and construction industry
  • Support and promote town centre developments
  • Support the maintenance of farm/orchard areas
  • Support the preservation of our beautiful waterfront
  • Better - Traffic control

  • Make recommendations in planning for our transit system
  • Recommend the widening of Harvey Ave to support the amount of increased traffic, from the exisitng, and soon to be, new, bridge
  • With the widening the main route through our city, emergency vehicles will find it easier and faster to travel through the current heavy traffic
  • Promote a by-pass route away from the main artery of Kelowna
