Kelowna 2005 Civic Elections - Carol Gran for City Council
Return to Kelowna 2005 Civic Elections Page...
EXPERIENCE – 17 years in the broadcasting industry in B.C. and Alberta, Small Business owner, plus 15 years in politics as an Executive Assistant to a Senior
Minister in the Bill Bennett Government and as MLA and Cabinet Minister in the last Social Credit Government..
PERSONAL STATUS – 63 years of age, married with two grown children and four grandchildren, three of them in the school system here in Kelowna. Lives in the Mission at Guisachan Village and is currently retired.
WHY IS CAROL RUNNING – “ I am running in this election because I see Kelowna at a critical crossroad and I believe I can help. My political experience was in a community that was very much like Kelowna,
experiencing enormous growth pressure, putting Agricultural Land at risk and threatening to turn Langley into a bedroom community for Vancouver. Retaining the soul of Kelowna, the rich heritage, and being faithful to the pioneers who came before us,
while balancing the needs of current and future residents is a daunting task. We should be looking for strong leadership in every council seat in this election.
My experience as a Council member, MLA and Member of Cabinet is invaluable. I’ve sat in the boardrooms, at the negotiating tables, consulted at great length with the community and was pro-active in addressing challenges before they became problems.
I do not believe there should be even the perception of a “backroom” and I was never part of one . I believe that government must be transparent, that decisions should, wherever possible, be discussed and made in public if they are to be decisions with integrity.
Problems are simply challenges, and working together we can find the right answers for the growth pressure, for the crime in our streets and neighborhoods, and for the transportation issues. Nothing worth doing is ever simple or easy.
I am asking for your support to become one of the eight council members elected on November 19th.”
