Kelowna 2005 Civic Elections - Barrie Clark for City Council
Return to Kelowna 2005 Civic Elections Page...
Growing up in the city of Kelowna was a privilege I did not fully appreciate until much later in life. The community support, recreational opportunities and education facilities could not have been better. I graduated from
Kelowna High School. Following my years at university, I settled in North Vancouver and continued my career as a radio and television broadcaster. I entered politics as a member of the North Vancouver District Council
and, later, as a member of the British Columbia Legislature. Returning to Kelowna 16 years ago, I hosted a radio talk show on CKOV until six years ago when I was elected to Council. I was re-elected in 2003. My
determination remains to see our City grow, but in a controlled manner. There is a limit to our growth potential and the remaining lands outside the Agricultural Land Reserved must be developed only within the context of the
Official Community Plan. This has been my determined position for the past six years and, if re-elected, I will continue to hold to this principle.
Transportation is a key issue. The new Council's efforts must be directed toward bringing the Provincial and Federal Governments onboard for the construction of a second crossing of Okanagan Lake,
connecting to the Central Okanagan Bypass. This should become the new section of Highway 97, with Harvey Avenue becoming an arterial road within the city.
